When I came to Thailand I hadn’t even heard of Pai. But since I hadn’t planned anything yet I followed my fellow new travel buddies to this adorable hippie town north of Chiang Mai.
We spent the first day strolling around town checking out all the markets and fell in love with Pai instantly.
The next day we rented scooters. It was my first time on a scooter and I LOVED it!! We drove to a waterfall and the Pai Canyon, amazing views, some climbing, all in all a perfect day!
After leaving Pai I returned to Chiang Mai, just to join a one day trip to the Golden Triangle the next day. The Golden Triangle is basically a river, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Back in the days it was famous for its opium plantations, today it just seems to be a tourist spot.
The whole trip did involve mainly driving, as the Golden Triangle is quite far away from Chiang Mai. On the way there we stopped at the white temple. The construction only started in 1996 so I guess for a temple this one is still fairly new.
Once we arrived at the actual Golden Triangle we got into a boat and drove over to the border between Thailand and Myanmar.
Then we had a little stopover in Laos, where we spent a total of 30 minutes on a market, drinking snake whiskey and shopping around.
